The Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs (AS-IA) Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development (IEED), Division of Energy and Mineral Development (DEMD) has partnered with AISES to present the Energy Challenge (EC) for American Indian/Alaskan Native youth in grades 9-12 and now middle school students in grades 7-8!
The EC is an energy-specific science fair designed to engage and encourage high school and middle school students to participate in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education through a creative, hands-on, problem solving and engineering process in an environment similar to a science fair. Students may compete as individuals, or as teams consisting of up to 4 students. All students/teams must have an adult sponsor. The sponsor can be either a parent, teacher, or mentor.
Eligible students are American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) high school students in 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade and middle school students in 7th and 8th grade. Teams (up to 4 students) must have at least one AI/AN student fully participating in all team activities. Each participant (whether an individual or team) must have one adult sponsor. The sponsor can be either a parent, teacher, or mentor.
