Energy Challenge Timelines

The 2017-2018 AISES Energy Challenge occurs in two phases:

Phase 1: Research and Design (Now – January 31, 2018)

Identify an energy-related problem that directly affects the individual, team, or their community.   January 31, 2018
Assess the problem and identify possible solutions.   January 31, 2018
Research and develop a demonstrable solution.   January 31, 2018
Present a solution, with a budget of up to $2000, to build and implement their solution.   January 31, 2018
Online judging of completed Phase 1 projects.   February 1 - 9, 2018
Notification sent to winners of Phase 1.  The top 5 winning High School students/teams from Phase 1 move onto Phase 2.  The top 3 winning Middle School students/teams from Phase 1 move onto Phase 2.   February 12, 2018

Phase 2 Build and Implement (February 20, 2018 – April 30, 2018)

If selected, build project/demonstration prototype, with a budget not to exceed $2,000.   February 20 - April 30, 2018
Communicate experience in building and solution implementation process.   February 20 - April 30, 2018
Submit required solution results and final materials.   April 30, 2018
Online judging of completed Phase 2 projects.   May 1 – 8, 2018
Announcement of Phase 2, Grand Prize winners!   May 9, 2018
Online judging of completed Phase 2 projects.   TBD, June 2018
